A BOYS CLUB TERRAFORMING MANIFESTO

Video installation, CGI video-piece

BETWEEN A ROCK AND THAT HARD GROUND, AFGANG 2019

A BOYS CLUB TERRAFORMING MANIFESTO is a 3D animated video piece that highlights the rhetoric of grown-up fantasies of space colonisation inspired by the heroic archetype of Columbus. A trend that saturates the narrative of interplanetary exploration and the geographical expansion of humankind. This work, place emphasis on the old fashioned colonial vocabulary that has been preserved and reproduced by scientist, space-race entrepreneurs and pop culture.

The voiceover was recorded based on a transcription taken from the documentary “the search for a new Earth”. Were professor Danielle George is interviewing Michael Reed Barratt, a physician and a NASA astronaut at the International Space Station Mockup.

"THE GUDBOI Souvenir display special edition" Installation part of for the show "TERRITORY" 2019

"Exotic Premium Delux " THE GUDBOI COMPANY advertisement piece featured at the show "The only revolution is around the sun!" 2019

A multiplatform installation that reflects on marketing strategies, which is used as a euphemism to mitigate inequality and stimulate a fabricated status of good conscience while fulfilling a potential buyer’s lack of concern. In the work, an ethical conundrum is being product-placed in a satirical context that interlinks the conditions of the New International Division of Labour (NIDL) with a dystopian science fiction narrative.

“In THE GUDBOI COMPANY, a video installation by Allan Cruz, a feminine voice vocalizes the fictive horrible working conditions attribute to the workers behind our significant products of need - coffee for instance. The strong feeling of shame which can manifest in the viewer is utilized by Cruz as a motive power to attack both the indifference to, and validity of, having been given and raised on unethical privileges” - Karen V Anderssen.

YOU PROMISED ME FLYING CARS. WE ARE IN 2016 AND ALL WE GOT IS TWERKING.

Video installation, performance

Futuristic infrastructure and technology depicted in cartoons such as “The Jetsons”, display a promising world where humans inhabited outer space, own robot-servants and transport themselves in flying cars. In 1998, Seinfeld’s George Costanza complained about the lack of flying cars: “When are they gonna have the flying cars? Yeah, they have been promising that. (…) When we were kids it seemed like it was around the corner.”

This artwork explores the contrast between naive pop-cultural prophecies regarding a utopian millennium, against the underwhelming absurdity of the present-day. It features an electromagnetic-induction device created by Cruz, that produces a voltage generated by motion, housed within a bum-bag and attached to a lightbulb that is powered when a performer is Twerking.

This piece is an ongoing project that will be recreated and performed each year and it will evolve depending on the context and the person performing.
